Goan Sorak Curry - No Meat No Vegetables Curry

Hello Everyone...

Summer in my part of the world where Sun is burning down the whole place like never before, I have slipped myself completely in Make Quick Meal zone. The meals which take least of time in kitchen are my most favorites now a days. This Goan Sorak curry just fits the bill and how... Otherwise also when we do not have any vegetables or meat to cook at home or some days when we just get super tired (or even bored) to cook any elaborated curries yet have that wish to bring some quick and delicious homecooked meal on our dinner table, I promise this curry is always there for your rescue. Can be made in no time and have all those favorite flavors (Spicy, tangy, salty, you name them and they will be there) which will make your family asking for more and more for the same. Finger licking or mouth watering delicious This sorak curry is the one which my grandmother used to make when I was little.

Lets get started

Main Course Recipe

Cuisine : Goan, Indian Coastal Region

Prep Time : 10 minutes

Cooking time : 15 minutes.

Serving : 4 people

Ingredients:

For Ground Masala:

  • Fresh Grated Coconut 1/2 cup

  • 1 large onion

  • 3 Dry Red Chilis

  • Garlic Cloves 7-8

  • Ginger 1 inch

  • Cumin Seeds 1 tsp

  • Coriander Seeds 2 tsp

Other Ingredients:

  • 2 Green Chilis

  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp

  • Kokum Petals 4-5

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil to cook

Lets Get Cooking :

  1. The Soul of this curry is freshly ground masala. To make that Masala, take mixer grinder jar and put all the Masala ingredients listed above with just half the Onion for grinding and save the rest half to add separately. Add some water as required and grind into super fine paste.

  2. In a deep bottom kadai, add some cooking oil (around 1 tbsp). Once oil is hot, add finely chopped Onion which we saved before. Saute till Onion gets translucent.

  3. Add Turmeric Powder and cook for 30-40 seconds.

  4. Time to add our freshly ground masala and mix well. Let the mixture boil while stirring in between to prevent it from burning. Cook for 4-5 minutes on low flame then add a bowl of water to adjust consistency. Give everything a good stir.

  5. Add Salt to taste along with Green Chilis and Kokum Petals. Mix well and boil the mixture for 4-5 minutes helping all the flavors come together.

  6. Switch off the flame and Our Sorak Curry is ready to get served.

  7. Serve with plain steam rice for best results.

Tips :

  1. Some people do replace Kokum Petals with tamarind But I feel Kokum surely takes this recipe to the next level and adds that amazingly tangy freshness to entire dish. But if you can not find Kokum petals in your nearby grocery stores, feel free to use Tamarind.

  2. You can use Kokum Concentrate too if available. Instead of adding Kokum Petals at the end, just add a tablespoon of Kokum Concentrate. Rest everything remains the same.

  3. You can adjust consistency as per your own liking by adding some extra water or by reducing it. I will suggest not to make it too much runny that it might will loose its essence completely.
